About Anouck Haverbeke
Anouck graduated as a Veterinarian at the University of Ghent (RUG, Belgium) in 2001. Anouck's interest in Ethology was already very clear. She conducted her final thesis on the behaviour of horses at the University of Madrid (UCM, Spain): "The effect of manual imitation of grooming on riding horses'heart rate".
During 2003 and 2009, she worked on a research project with the collaboration of the Belgian Defence and the University of Namur (FUNDP, Belgium). In 2009, she obtained her PhD in Ethology with success, entitled "A new Human Familiarisation and Training Programme for Military Dog Handler Teams - Improving Security, Efficiency and Welfare at the Belgian Defence". This project has been perceived as the groundwork of forthcoming research, offering significant improvements in the way working dogs are raised and/or procured, trained and employed - not to mention their welfare and the human animal relationship. This project has scientifically been recognised for his quality (see peer-reviewed articles, lectures, postersessions) and has even receveid a special mention in an editorial (Overall, JVB (5) 67-68, 2010).
Currently, next to the creation of VetEthology, she continues researching on Ethology and Human Animal Interactions with collaboration of the University of Namur. Furthermore, she is member of Veterinary Associations on Ethology (VDWE, ESVCE) and performs continuous professional training. Actually, we never finish learning...
